Neighbourhood outreach is a key priority at All Saints. Our Outreach Team is dedicated to contributing to social justice awareness and support in our neighbourhood and throughout Manitoba. In addition to Kakinow Ntomakanik, our Indigenous Ministry, our partnership with West Broadway Community Ministry and the creation of West Broadway Commons, we have had a longstanding relationship with Agape Table who were housed in our parish hall for 28 years.
Several times per year, we highlight a non-profit organization with our church congregation, encouraging support and a better understanding of the impact of their activities. We have recently joined a diocesan team who sponsors refugees.
Kakinow Ntomakanik
Kakinow Ntomakanik is an inner city healing ministry with Indigenous people living in poverty. The Reverend Barbara Shoomski provides a listening ear and counselling to all who request it. She provides community pastoral care for people living in the inner city. She also performs baptisms, marriages and funerals as requested by the wider community and offers spiritual ministry as well as referrals to resources at hospitals, food banks and gatherings.
West Broadway Community Ministry (WBCM)
West Broadway Community Ministry (WBCM) is located at Crossways on the corner of Broadway and Furby Street. It provides a lunch program 4 days a week, has an emergency food pantry and provides access to laundry and showers. There is also advocacy and mentoring to help people navigate systems and programming focussed on building healthy families.
All Saints Church and Young United Church were instrumental in the creation of West Broadway Community Ministry in the early 1970’s. This partnership, including on-going financial support, continues to this day. In 2020, WCBM decided to come under the umbrella of 1JustCity. 1JustCity provides administrative and funding support which allows WCBM more time and energy to focus on its programs. All Saints has a representative on the WBCM Advisory Committee to the 1JustCity Board.
