Why Sing In Church?

An Exploration of Music and Liturgy

Music makes up a significant portion of our worship time on Sunday mornings: the organ voluntaries, the hymns and psalms, the liturgy and anthems. But what is it that music is doing in our corporate worship time; what roles is it playing? How is it different from singing the national anthem at a hockey game, or music being performed at a concert hall? And how is it similar? These and other questions will be explored in the Saturday workshop, focusing both on the functions of worship, and the functions of music.

A light lunch will be provided.
