Outreach Team Updates

Refugee Support

On June 13 the family of Khasma Bader along with two representatives from All Saints Church’s Outreach Team met at Winnipeg Airport. They were there to welcome Khasma Bader to her new life in Winnipeg after nearly nine years in a refugee camp in Syria. It’s been nearly two and a half years since we were approached by the Anglican Diocesan of Rupert’s Land’s Refugee Coordinator to assist in the sponsorship process of bringing Khasma to Canada. The happy day has finally arrived when she could rejoin her sister and family and the small Kurdish community in Winnipeg. It was clear that she has a loving and caring family, and a supportive community. There was much laughter and many tears of joy in the assembled group. As Khasma settles in there will be opportunities for the All Saints community to provide additional supports to her and your Outreach Team will be keeping in touch with any potential opportunities in assisting we could provide her.

Mulvey School

The Outreach Committee noted the letters to the Free Press from people uncomfortable with receiving the education property tax rebate cheques recently, given the years of underspending for education. Some are looking for ways to give this money back to the schools, and the Outreach Team invites anyone so inclined to consider a contribution to Mulvey School by sending a cheque to All Saints with Outreach/Mulvey indicated at the bottom. These funds will be used toward projects undertaken by the Outreach Team in collaboration with this, our neighbourhood school.
