Black Anglicans of Canada - Black History Month – Black Celebration Service

Sunday, April 28 - 2 pm

The Parish Church of St. Luke, 130 Nassau St N, Winnipeg

“The national theme for this year’s Black History Month is “ Black Excellence: A Heritage to Celebrate; a Future to Build.” As we are all looking forward to another year in the celebration of Black History Month, this February, on behalf of Black Anglicans in the Diocese of Rupert’s Land, I send our committee’s message to everyone in the Diocese to pray along with us, engage in conversations in celebrating Black excellence, and for us all to keep telling our success stories and heritage as we join hands in building a future together that supports our shared ministry in the Diocese of Rupert’s Land.”   – The Rev. Wilson Akinwale, National Board Chair of Black Anglicans of Canada

Our annual Black Celebration Service will on Sunday, April 28 at the Parish of St Luke at 2pm.  Details to follow soon.

From Black History Manitoba:

Winnipeg is set to celebrate Black History Month 2024

Winnipeg is gearing up for its 43rd Annual Black History Month Celebration. We continue to explore new ventures, heightened global awareness, and to celebrate historical firsts! Our 2024 BHM theme is “STRENGTH BEHIND US, GREATNESS AHEAD OF US”.

The history of Black people has been inadequately reflected in the general history of Canada; therefore, there is a need for specific attention to be paid on said history. February (Black History Month) is the month in which we bear witness to the progress, richness, and diversity of the achievements and contributions of Black people in Canada and around the world. It is also a time to reflect on the issues and difficulties that were faced and continue to be faced within the Black community.

Here in Winnipeg, the Annual Black History Month Celebration was launched by the local Chapter of the National Black Coalition of Canada in 1981. The honor and responsibility of organizing these events have passed through different organizations throughout the years and in 2024, is organized by the Black History Manitoba Celebration Committee (BHMCC) Inc. The events are open to the public and we hope to see a varied body of participants, of all communities and ages, in the hope that the linkages between our histories become evident. Most of our events this year will return to an in-person format unless otherwise specified.
