The traditional Advent Procession ushers in the new church year with a candlelit service of lessons, carols, and spectacular music from our choir. A sherry reception will follow.
The Advent Procession was brought to All Saints in 1953 by Hugh Bancroft, organist and choir master, after attending a similar service at King's College Chapel in Cambridge. Hugh Bancroft was also a renowned composer, and we will be singing one of his hymns - "There's a Voice in the Wilderness Crying".
This year the choir will be performing a brand-new piece, written by our own Mark Holmes à Court for this event. Thanks to a grant from the Foundation for Choral Music in Manitoba, Mark has composed a new musical setting of the poem St. John the Baptist, by Anne Killgrew (1660-1685).
